魏文考的父親在民國90年因鼻咽癌過世，之後他的農地就一直處於休耕狀態。目前魏文考除了冬季補鰻苗外，其他時間就四處打零工貼補家用，藉此養活4名小孩與年邁的母親。
Wei Wen-kao's father passed away in 2001 from nasopharyngeal cancer. Since then, the family's land has lay fallow. Wei fishes for eel fry in the winter and takes on odd jobs during the rest of the year to support his four children and elderly mother.
「祖先說，住海邊有田種又有海，不怕沒得吃。現在六輕來了，什麼都沒了。」魏文考說。
Wei says that, "My ancestors told us that if you have your fields and the sea, you will never go hungry. Since the Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant has come, we don't have anything."
